NFPW Communications Contest encourages and rewards excellence in communications in a wide range of categories — writing, editing, page design, photography, graphics, radio, television, web and social media, advertising, public relations/promotion/publicity, speeches, collegiate/education, books and creative writing.
Colorado members of NFPW are urged to enter the At-Large Contest run by the National Federation of Press Women for states without an active contest (like Colorado). First-place At-Large winners are automatically entered in NFPW’s national contest if they are NFPW members. Competitors are often from New York, New Hampshire, Maryland, Louisiana, Nevada, Tennessee, Kentucky, New Jersey, Maine, Oregon, Wyoming, Georgia, Florida, Connecticut and Michigan.

All entries must be published in 2023. The professional contest includes categories for work appearing in college media and for college media advisors.
The contest is open to writers, authors, copy editors, page designers, public affairs professionals, photographers, publishers or others in the communications field. The contest is sponsored by NFPW affiliates, and people living in states without an affiliate hosting a contest, such as Colorado, are eligible to enter the NFPW At-Large contest. First-place winners in the affiliate and At-Large contests are eligible to advance to the national competition.
The early deadline to submit entries — and avoid a one-time additional fee of $25 — is Jan. 17, 2024. The final deadline for books is Jan. 31, 2024, and the final deadline for all other entries is Feb. 7, 2024. To enter the national contest, the entrants must be NFPW members or must join by March 15, 2024. National winners will be notified in late April. Contest detailed results will be announced during an awards dinner on June 22, 2024, in St. Louis, MO.
