Twenty-five students from three Colorado high schools submitted 50 entries in the 2009 communications contest. Thirty-five awards, ranging from first place to honorable mention, were handed out.

Rock Canyon High School, Highlands Ranch, The Rock, eight awards (five firsts, three seconds)

The 14 first-place entries were sent to the national contest. Award winners at this level were:

  • Trevor David, honorable mention, Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, Sports Story, “Few fans see minor sports”
