Mim Swartz has worked in travel journalism for nearly 20 years. She was travel editor of the Rocky Mountain News from April 1986 to November 2001, when she joined The Denver Post as travel editor. She retired from the Post in June 2005. In January 2006 she began working part-time as associate editor of GoColoradoTravel.com, an online interactive magazine site celebrating travel in Colorado.
During her newspaper years, Swartz won numerous writing and editing awards in the prestigious Lowell Thomas competition sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers, the preeminent organization for travel journalists. She has been a member of SATW since 1987.
Before getting into travel journalism, Swartz was suburban editor of the Rocky Mountain News and was senior editor of Sentinel Newspapers, overseeing five suburban weekly newspapers in Jefferson County, Colorado.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, she holds a bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Columbia, Mo. She lives in Golden with her husband, Tom Carney, and two cats, Iliad and Odyssey.
