Roxanne Hawn spent nearly 10 years as a staff writer and editor for nonprofit organizations and national trade magazines. She then began her full-time freelance career in late 1999 on the advice of several mentors.

Hawn feels nothing less than liberated. Because she's on the outside and not bogged down by other things, like office politics, she focuses only on the goal, the deadline and the creative vision for the piece - be it a newspaper or magazine feature or a corporate communication piece.

An avowed lifestyles generalist, Hawn credits her liberal arts education (literature and fine art) and broad professional experience for the ability to pick up nearly any topic quickly — health and fitness, home and fashion, artists and authors, relationships and marriage, trends and tips.

Amid this wide range of topics, she is perhaps best known locally for her writing about weddings and related trends. She's been the regular "Vows" columnist for The Denver Post since 2001, which means attending some two dozen weddings per year. She also is an occasional contributor to the "Vows" and "Field Notes" sections of the Sunday Styles section of The New York Times Magazine.

In addition, Hawn is a frequent and regular contributor to several national pet and pet-related trade magazines. As the former lead creative services writer for the American Animal Hospital Association and publications manager for the American Humane Association, she brings more than 10 years of experience writing about these markets.

Hawn lives in the Rocky Mountains, west of Denver, with her husband Tom. They are the proud "parents" of two great dogs, Ginko Cornelius (lab/greyhound) and Lilly Elizabeth (border collie). Hawn reads a lot, loves to cook, manages to make a quilt on occasion, and recently began training to compete in canine agility trials with Lilly.
