Cheryl Ghrist is a 32-year veteran of publishing in Colorado. A University of Georgia journalism graduate, she moved to Denver in 1975, working for four years at the Rocky Mountain News as a clerk, then assistant manager in the advertising production department, trafficking ads to the composing room. She then worked as assistant to the publisher and a columnist at the Douglas County News-Press and as a reporter at the Parker Trail.
She began 17 years with the Villager Newspaper Group in 1987, working on many weekly, monthly and specialty newspapers as a reporter and editor, and earning more than 60 awards (including 30 from CPW), mostly for feature, column and professional sports writing. She also worked as editor of a high-tech manufacturing magazine group, then returned to newspapers to revamp the Denver Herald-Dispatch after the Villager acquired the failing paper in August 2001.
Cheryl has worked for Colorado Press Association's Colorado Press Service advertising department since January 2006. She handles retail orders and both statewide programs for classified and small display ads. In her spare time, she enjoys going out to dinner and movies with her husband of 14 years, John (a magazine editor in Loveland), reading, following sports and traveling. The couple share a home in Aurora with their adopted cat, Amanda.
