Gay Porter DeNileon has three decades of experience in print journalism, as a reporter, editor and photographer, as well as in layout and production. With a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Colorado, she began her career as a world-roving reporter for a ski publication, then honed her skills as a magazine freelancer before becoming a reporter and editor for a weekly newspaper in Crested Butte, Colo.
She joined the staff of American Water Works Association in 1993 as managing editor of MainStream. Since then, she has worked on all four AWWA periodicals. Currently she is the AWWA publications manger and oversees book development and a staff of four.
Gay has won numerous awards from Colorado Press Women, Colorado Press Association and the American Society of Business Publication Editors. She has served on the board and as president of numerous volunteer organizations, including several homeowners' associations, the Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce, the CB Mountain Theater, the Lakewood High School IB Parents Association, ASBPE and CPW.
